When it comes to your printing company’s website, the quality of your content (or lack thereof) can draw a potential print buyer to you or push them away. Poorly written or boring web copy is unlikely to capture attention or inspire action. To engage your audience and experience improved sales, you need well-written content on your website. Let’s talk about how you can turn your website content into a powerful selling tool with a little bit of extra care and attention. Why is Good Website Content Important for Your Print Business? Attract site visitors Build trust Demonstrate your print and marketing expertise Educate your potential customers on your line of print products Sell your potential clients on the benefits of your print products Deal with any potential objections BEFORE the potential customer talks to you Upsell – even before the first sale happens By making the right impression online and staying in touch with your prospects and customers, the sky is the limit when it comes to building a successful printing business. What is the Connection Between Engaging Website Content and Print Sales? Often, your website is the initial point of contact between you and a potential print buyer. While

Blessings. Joy. Thankfulness. Gratitude. These are the words of the season. They are also the words from many print owners who have dedicated their careers, their lives to this industry. As you take time to count your blessings this week, don’t forget the incredible joy that can be found through print. Giving Thanks for the Print Industry We asked several printers what they’re most thankful for about being a part of the print industry. Here’s what they had to say. Tri M Graphics “I am thankful to be in the Print Industry because we can make a difference. We have the opportunity to partner with our clients to help them achieve results. Communication is such a vital part of what we do; through our printed material, we can help to build and/or strengthen relationships. Printing can be so much more than a transaction if you open your mind up to the possibilities.” – Michael Jensen Tri M Graphics, Owatonna, Minnesota “I am thankful for the Printing Industry because we make the world more colorful! Imagine how boring everything would look with no printing!” – Derek Brooks Brandywine Printing, Cumming, Georgia “Although it can be a stressful, deadline-oriented business, I can’t think

Every so often, I like to go through the drawers of my tool chest in the barn and take an inventory of things. I’m not talking about an extensive certified public accounting inventory, but just a look around to see what I already have that I might have forgotten existed. I’ll usually find multiples of things that I forgot I had or that I have never used but bought anyway because of my “I might need that someday” syndrome. A tool review accomplishes a couple of things: First, it keeps me on track when I wander into retail la-la land at the home improvement store. Secondly, it reminds me of things I know needed fixing or mending that have been waiting around until I found the perfect tool for finally getting a “round tuit.” A Tool Review of Your Print Business I apply this tool review concept in my print business as well. From digital tools to hardware to equipment, I like to run everything through a series of questions: What do I have that I am not using? What can I use it for? Am I ever going to use it? What was I going to use it for

Entrepreneur Leland Dieno says, “Your website is the center of your digital ecosystem, like a brick and mortar location, the experience matters once a customer enters, just as much as the perception they have of you before they walk through the door.” We couldn’t agree more! However, websites are often viewed as one-and-done things you do when you start your print business rather than something transitional that will help you grow your print business. Don’t let this happen to you! Keeping your website fresh, relevant, and up-to-date is simpler than you might think. Here are five things you can do TODAY to dust off your digital doorstep and lay out the welcome mat for your print buyers. 5+ THINGS TO IMPROVE YOUR WEBSITE IN ONE DAY 1. Choose One Thing to Personalize Visitors to your website want to know who you are and what makes you different. Include photos of your local area, your print shop, staff, shop dog or cat,… the list goes on! The key is to add your personal touch to your website so others get to know you better. 2. Use Your Website’s Portfolio Feature Did you know your print website has a pre-filled portfolio to

A while back, I told you about how much I enjoyed my comfort zone, in contrast to my risk-taking husband, in a blog titled 7 Do’s and Don’ts for the Risk-Adverse Printer. These days, I’m still not riding kayaks off of cliffs or participating in family skydiving events like the one below; however, that doesn’t mean my comfort zone hasn’t been shrinking. Stepping out of a comfort zone will look different from one person or business to the next. For some, it could be as simple as one step in an unknown direction. For others, stepping out means the daily battle of fighting their way toward a goal they’ve been working on for years. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you’re looking to step outside your comfort zone. Know Your Motivation To move outside of your comfort zone, you must first learn what it’ll take to motivate you there. After decades of overthinking, I’ve come to understand the number one thing that pushes me out of my comfort zone is not the adrenaline rush (a.k.a. absolute terror!) of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Rather, I am motivated to get uncomfortable if it means helping someone

Productivity and efficiency are goals all companies strive toward, not just printing companies. But they don’t happen by accident. As Paul J. Meyer says, “Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” – Paul J. Meyer When was the last time you focused on productivity and workflow efficiency at your print shop? Below are some tips to get you pointed in the right direction. Prepare for procrastinators. It’s important to anticipate that your print buyers will be procrastinators. Sure, you’d love to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they will leave you with adequate time to complete their jobs, but that’s unrealistic. Customers expect you to move at the speed of THEM, not you. This means their due dates and problems become yours, and you have to deal with it. Are you ready? Takeaway: Implement an online ordering system that efficiently manages your production workflow, so you can anticipate and adjust to clients’ needs. Know who you are. On the flip side of bending to the needs of your print buyers, you also must have a solid understanding of who you are. What and your

Though it can be tempting to stay status quo with your email list for the sake of numbers, the truth is a smaller list of responsive email contacts is of higher quality and greater benefit to your print business. If your email list contains a large number of unresponsive contacts, it’s time to ask yourself why and what you can do about it. You want your print buyer subscribers to rapidly open and respond to your messages and have appreciable reactions to your email campaigns. But how do you accomplish this? Here are ten do’s and don’ts for maintaining an email list of responsive contacts and keeping you out of the junk folder: Do: Seek Reader Consent for Subscribing Don’t: Buy Email Lists Buying lists of contacts will provide you with a larger base audience; however, it doesn’t guarantee engagement. By allowing your readers to choose to subscribe to your emails, you have a greater chance that these people are interested in your print products and marketing services and will respond to your email campaigns. One of the most effective tools to encourage print buyers and prospects to subscribe to your email list is offering them a reward in exchange
