Bigger Vehicles, Bigger Email

My family loves camping. We started camping nine years ago, back when our kids were two, four, and six years old. We drove a GMC Yukon, hooked the camper up to the hitch, shoved the kids in the back seat, and hit the road. Traveling was a blast!

Chevy Suburban

The Family’s New Suburban

We’re getting ready for this year’s camping season and it’s pretty much the same formula, but with one important change. My family informed me that in order for us to have a successful (and by successful they mean “happy!”) camping season, we would need a tow vehicle with three rows of seating instead of two. You see, nine years later the kids were getting bigger, but the Yukon wasn’t. So a few weeks ago, with a certain amount of sentimentality, the Yukon left our family, and our driveway welcomed a new-to-us Chevy Suburban with three rows of seating. Let the camping season begin!

Email is like that too. “The kids were getting bigger but the Yukon wasn’t,” is replaced by “The files are getting bigger, but the email capacity isn’t.” That’s changing, as of June 1, 2014! You’re about to get more email capacity, and unlike my purchase of the Suburban, this upgrade is pretty tame on the wallet. You will get more email capacity, and the extra capacity is either no cost or lower cost in almost every scenario. How’s that for a good deal?

Increasing the Capacity of Your Email Inbox

We have always provided complimentary email accounts for Websites For Printers customers, and for as long as I can remember (probably for as long as I had that Yukon!) the base capacity has been 100 MB, with the opportunity to purchase up to 10 GB of additional capacity.

Starting June 1, 2014, the base capacity of your email accounts is increasing to 1 GB … and the increase is free to you!

That means if you are currently purchasing additional capacity to increase the size of your mailbox to 500 MB or 1 GB, you’ll no longer have to pay for that additional capacity. Your email account will automatically be upgraded to the new 1 GB mailboxes. We’ll do that for you automatically. You won’t even have to lift a finger!

Lots more email capacity

The news gets even better … you can now purchase additional capacity up to 25 GB! The rules for adding additional capacity are a little different now. It used to be that we could upgrade the capacity of any email account independently from all other accounts. Now, an increase in capacity requires that all email accounts within your domain are set to the same capacity. In other words, if you have seven 1 GB email accounts in your domain and you wish to increase the capacity of your account to 5 GB, doing so will not only increase your capacity, but also the capacity of the other six email accounts too.

While we are able to provide the 1 GB email accounts at no charge, we do need to cover our costs for the larger account capacities. We’re not ad-sponsored like Google’s Gmail, so we can’t cover the cost that way. On the flip side, we don’t let the National Security Agency (NSA) eavesdrop on your email … so that in itself is worth the price of admission!

Here’s the pricing structure for additional capacity:

Account CapacityPrice
1 GBCompletely Free!
5 GB$1.10 per month per account
15 GB$2.35 per month per account
25 GB$2.75 per month per account

We’ve been able to work with our email partner to really keep these costs down. As you can see, it’s a pretty good bargain!

A Few Scenarios

Here are a few scenarios to give you a better idea of what you can expect:

Scenario #1 – You are using 10 email accounts, all of them are at the current base of 100 MB. Because all accounts are at the base level, you’re not paying for any additional capacity.

Result: All accounts will be upgraded to the new base capacity of 1 GB by June 1, 2014. There will be no additional cost for this capacity upgrade.

Scenario #2 – You are using seven email accounts. Four are at the current base of 100 MB, two are at 500 MB capacity, and one is at 1 GB capacity. You’re currently paying $1 per month per account for each 500 MB account and $1.50 per month per account for each 1 GB account. Your current total cost for additional capacity is $3.50 per month.

Result: No accounts exceed the new base capacity of 1 GB, so all accounts will be upgraded to the new base capacity of 1 GB by June 1, 2014, at no charge. The current additional capacity charge of $3.50 per month will disappear.

Scenario #3 – You are using seven email accounts. Six are at the current base of 100 MB, and one is at the 5 GB capacity. You’re currently paying $5.00 per month for the single 5 GB account. Your current total cost for additional capacity is $5.00 per month.

Result: The largest existing mailbox size is 5 GB, so all seven accounts would be upgraded to the 5 GB capacity by June 1, 2014. Under the updated pricing structure, your additional capacity would be $7.70. Your monthly invoice for additional capacity will increase from $5.00 per month to $7.70 per month.

Scenario #4 – You are using seven email accounts. Two are at the current base of 100 MB, three are at 1 GB capacity, and two are at the 5 GB capacity. You’re currently paying $1.50 per month per account for each 1 GB account and $5.00 per month per account for each 5 GB account. Your current total cost for additional capacity is $13.00 per month.

Result: The largest existing mailbox size is 5 GB, so all seven accounts would be upgraded to the 5 GB capacity by June 1, 2014. Under the updated pricing structure, your additional capacity is $7.70. Your monthly invoice for additional capacity would be reduced from $13.00 per month to $7.70 per month.

Welcome to your larger email inbox! All Websites For Printers invoices will be adjusted starting June 1, 2014, to reflect the new pricing structure. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments.
